Anyone who has ever moved to another location knows how strenuous the process can be. Packing everything into boxes is no walk in the park, especially the items that are fragile. These items in particular can break easily if you don’t go the extra mile to protect them. What’s more, often times our most prized possessions are also the most fragile. No one wants their precious belongings to get damaged while transported to their new home. For some, wine is one of their most cherished and valuable possessions.

Wine collections can be worth millions. So anyone who has a high-priced investment like this can feel a lot of stress having it shipped. Preventing damage to the bottles is obviously important, but it’s more than that when it comes to wine. It’s about making sure that the flavor and the color stay as they are as well. Extreme temperatures can change both color and flavor of a wine. The older and more expensive the wine is, the more susceptible it is to these changes.

The ideal temperature for wine to be stored in is 55 degrees. The best way to transfer it is by car, as the climate can be controlled much more there than in a moving truck. Moving trucks can get very hot and cold, which would be very damaging to wine. If you aren’t driving yourself, then can hire a temperature-controlled wine transportation company.

Packing wine into styrofoam is recommended because it provides thorough protection of each wine bottle and insulation. A styrofoam box or inserts can be placed into cardboard box. Some may simply use packing paper to wrap their bottles in, while placing material in between each row of bottles. Use at least two sheets of paper for each bottle, and tape the wrapping to make it more secure. Styrofoam, packing paper, or bubble wrap can be placed in between each bottle. The very top of the box should also be filled with one of these materials as well.

If you are flying and only have a couple of bottles to transport, then you can take them with you on your flight. It’s recommended that you store the bottles in a wine luggage carrier so they are well protected. The wine of course is at a higher risk of being damaged on a plane.

While much emphasis should be placed on packing wine, placing it in a strong moving box is critical as well. Using the wrong box can make or break your wine collection during the move.

Life itself is dependent on water. Our body weight is 75% water and our brains are 85% water that helps cushion the brain from the skull. Each body cell us made up of from 75 percent to 90 percent water. We simply can’t stay alive without it. There are several reasons we must have it.

First of all, water is the universal solvent and since most of the body’s chemical reactions take place in solution, water is needed for them to take place. Second, water permits blood to flow through the arteries and veins. It keeps the blood fluid. Third, water is an excellent absorber of heat and this fact helps regulate body temperature both by storing heat when cold and by losing heat through evaporation (sweating) when hot. Sweating not only cools the body but also helps cleanse impurities and waste.

Much as we need water, our bodies are constantly losing it. We lose water in three ways. First, the kidneys make urine and when we pass it, we of course lose water. This is true because the kidneys process 45 to 50 gallons of fluid a day and produce more than a quart of urine every day. Since urine is 95% water, we must replenish that water other ways. The other two ways the body loses water are by perspiration and defecation.

We repeat, this lose means water must be replaced. On average a person should drink two quarts or eight to ten glasses of water each day. If we don’t replace the water we lose, we will suffer the effects of dehydration. Some have estimated that as much as 75% of Americans are dehydrated. If it is not treated quickly, dehydration can be fatal.

Diarrhea and/or vomiting are common causes of dehydration. When sick to the stomach, most people can’t keep anything down. However, as soon as you can, ingest liquids to replace the loss. The old and the young are most likely to be dehydrated. The old are vulnerable because they tend to lose their sensation of thirst with age. If a person loses more than 1% of body weight in liquids, it is considered to be severe dehydration.

How would you know if you were dehydrated? First, dehydration is often accompanied with only small amounts of dark urine. A person who is dehydrated might also notice their body temperature rise. Also check for confusion, extreme thirst, fatigue, nausea, and headaches. A person may also have a lack of tears or sunken eyes.

If you suspect you are dehydrated, try this simple test. Pinch your skin, then let go. If you are dehydrated, the skin will be slow to return to its normal position. If in doubt, drink a glass of water. Sufficient pure water also benefits people because such rarely develop kidney stones.

Severe dehydration, mentioned above, might have these symptoms: severe cramping of the arms, legs, stomach, and back, low blood pressure, loss of consciousness, convulsions, sunken eyes, heart failure, inelasticity of the skin, and deep, rapid breathing. In such cases, a person will need to replace salts and glucose as well as water.

Of course, we must be drinking clear water. Be sure your water supply is pure. In summary, be sure you are drinking sufficient pure water each day. You will be much healthier if you religiously drink two quarts a day.

When it comes to buying red wine there are so many different types on offer. In this article I am going to try and describe one of the more popular types of red wine available. Merlot is a wine that you see on the supermarket shelf, on a restaurant wine list or online at an independent wine retail site, but what does it taste like and what does it taste good with?

Merlot is actually the name of the grape ad well as the name of the wine that is produces. It is a grape that is used on its own to produce wine or is also used as a grape for bleding with other grapes to make different types of wine. It is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon to create a rich red wine. Merlot is one of the most popular red wine grapes in the world.

Red wine produced from the Merlot grape is different from Cabernet Sauvignon. The grape is redder in colour, ripens earlier, has a thinner skin and fewer tannins. It is a grape that grows well in colder soils and because it is quicker to ripen is ideal for countries with a shorter warm season.

Merlot is an essential ingredient in the wines made in the Bordeaux region of France – in fact it is found in about 25% of the wines produced in that region. Even some of the most expensive wines produced in the world have the merlot grape as part of their make up. So remember it may be something you can find in most stores and online but when treated properly this grape can be part of some of the most pricey wines ever –Chateau Petrus wines are based on the Merlot grape and this rare wine often fetches huge amounts of money when it becomes available

However you don’t have to be a millionaire to enjoy the delights of a good bottle of Merlot. In Italy Merlot produces a great table wine, mixed with the Sangiovese grape the wine is soft in its tase and is essential with a plate of pasta or antipasto.

In Hungary they use the grape when producing their classic Bull’s Blood. Maybe not to everyone’s taste but again it shows the versatility and range of flavours that can be produced by this grape.

Because of the diversity of the wine that the Merlot grape can produce it can also work well with a wide range of foods. It can have deep fruit flavours of plum and blackberry which complement a wide range of meat dishes or it can be more silky and soft in its taste when blended with the cabernet sauvignon to make a classic claret. And don’t forget that Merlot is one of the varieties of grapes most loved by wine growers across the globe so there are fantastic types of Merlot found in Australia and Chile as well spicy Italian reds which give any pasta dish an edge!

Despite the fact that South African wine is generally thought of as New World, the country has actually been producing wine for more than 350 years. However, it is only since the end of Apartheid in the 1990’s that the South African wine industry has really come into its own.

The heart of South Africa’s wine growing industry is The Cape and three of the country’s five growing regions are located here. Stellenbosch, one of these regions, accounts for a vast proportion of the country’s wine production, in particular, of international grape varieties.

Having said that, a wine search shouldn’t be focused entirely on Stellenbosch. Although the area produces great tasting wines, it’s also a firm favourite on the tourist trail, meaning that you’ll come across some fairly hefty prices compared to other South African wine regions. If you want to be sure that you get maximum value for money from your wine, yet get all the quality and taste of real South Africa, don’t forget to look to the lesser known areas and wine-makers.

Traditionally white grapes have dominated South African wine production. Chenin Blanc, which is more commonly known in South Africa as Steen, accounts for a huge proportion of the wine production. It produces a deliciously crisp dry wine, although it can be used to make some sweeter varieties. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are also popular with South African winemakers.

More recently, demand for South African red wine has taken off, with a number of international varieties, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, all key to this success. In addition, South Africa’s home grown red grape Pinotage, is at the heart of South African wine production. Pinotage was initially slow to gain popularity but has become increasingly sought after as winemakers get to grips with learning how to get the most from it.

Winemaking took off in South Africa when the migrating French Huguenots brought their winemaking skills to the country back in the 17th century. By the early 20th century, these skills had been rolled out across the country, although it could be argued that the quality of the wine being produced at this time was relatively poor. A master cooperative (KWV) was set up in order to help provide stability and supervise all production within the South African wine industry. However, this was privatised following the end of Apartheid. Since then, an exciting new generation of winemakers has been learning skills from other wine-making nations. New capital and training has been invested and winemakers have had more freedom to experiment. The result is the emergence of a generation of wines which rival those from the New World.

Unlike many other nations, wine from South Africa clearly straddles the Old World and New. Thanks to its warm temperate climate, South African wines are blessed with all the fruitiness of New World, yet have the wine growing history and finesse of the Old World.

Madeira got additional popularity within the America’s colonies when importation of European grown merchandise was banned. Madeira took advantage with the predicament and established close ties with merchants in Boston, New York, Philadelphia Baltimore, Charleson and Savannah. A steady trade then created exactly where wine from Madeira was traded for American goods like indigo, corn and cotton. This trade went on uninterrupted until war interfered in the 1770s.

Madeira was the wine of selection for most sophisticated Americans like in the inauguration of George Washington exactly where it was toasted with Madeira and during the declaration of independence. Wealthy households from Boston also established collections of Madeira’s and Madeira parties became key social events.

When served in 1950s the wine was 158 years old and was in fine situation. Madeira’s wines are characterized by wealthy, sweet velvety tastes with room filling aromas of butterscotch, cocoa and coffee. Madeira’s longevity earns it a particular place within the category of old wines which take more than a century to mature devoid of losing complexity or richness and can remain for more than two centuries and still offer you the enjoyment of drinking.

Madeira wines are produced from grapes grown on terraces cut into the island’s mountains. An example of Madeira wine is Port which is strong as brandy is added towards the wine but unlike other fortified wines Madeira is heated for many months either in unique vats or in attic lofts of Madeira lodges. This heating has its origins when merchant ships stopped at Madeira on their way to East and West Indies in the 1600s. Madeira wines were a frequent cargo on ships sailing to America’s also as Portugal, England and India’s principal lands.

The value of a trip to the tropics according to Legend, was discovered when a cask was found forgotten within the ship’s hold was returned to Madeira. The wine was observed to be wealthy and velvety far much better than when it left. A tropic cruise became art of Madeira wine generating tradition. Producers continued to send their casks on lengthy voyages to develop fantastic good quality. These wines had been named ‘Vina da roda’ which signifies wines of the round voyage. Those that crossed the equator twice were deemed the best. These voyages led to some Madeiras obtaining names from the ships they sailed in.

Majority of Madeiras are blends of vintages and grape varieties. They have Madeiras its greatness. Vintage and solera Madeiras are created from grape varieties after which the wines are named. These names not just describe grape variety but style also. They’re; Malmsey, the sweetest and richest, Bual, Verdelho and Sercial are the lightest and driest.

A Great fine wine is meant to be enjoyed. Drink what you love best and with what you love best . Life is complex enough without having to stress over that one and only perfect wine to go with a precise food. If you benefit from a fine red wine with fish, drink it, and if you take pleasure in a fine white wine with beef, drink it. If you benefit from a red wine with chocolate, enjoy. Just remember, a good rule of thumb is red wines usually are best served with red meat and firm cheese; white wines are best served with fish, poultry and light vegetable dishes. Sweet white wines are served with dessert.

A great fine wine that displays fruit that tastes ripe will make your mouth think of berries almost melting with taste on your pallet, apples and pears that are wet, crisp, and soft all at once, or passion fruits that have begun to wrinkle, typically thought of as a sign of rot in fruits, are bursting with flavor. The moment before it begins to rot is the ripest a fruit can be, and this is the precise flavor that you want to pair together with spicy food.

Today’s most popular types of wines are the red wine, the white wine, the sparkling wine, the table wine, the cooking wine and port wines.

When it comes to popularity, red wines are at the top, one type of red wine is produced in Bordeaux, France. These types of wine, known as cabernet sauvignon, are red wines and are the foremost choice of food connoisseurs the world over. This is by far the most popular wine known to consumers.
There are other wonderful red wines that are considered to be very popular such as the Grenache red wine which comes with a noticeable smoked raspberry flavor; then you have the Merlot that tastes like cherry with chocolate, and there is the Pinot Noir that has a very special taste which is something like mint, black cherries and raspberries put together. The Pinot Noir is however, exceptionally difficult to cultivate.

Sparkling wine is well known for its little bubbles that race to the surface and tickle the nose. Sparkling wine is one of the most exotic yet refreshing kinds of wine, providing memories and happiness once the cork is released into the air. For several years, this exotic wine has proven to be among the most popular types of wine for celebrations and special achievements.

Port wine is certainly one of the most popular. If you are a wine novice then most likely you are wondering what port wine even is. For these people, here is some information on port wine.
There are many different types of wines produced around the world. Many people are familiar with the classic red and white types of wine that give a sense of sophistication to any meal. There are also wines that are designed to be more of an after dinner drink and these are known as port wine.

One final wine well worth mentioning because it is virtually unheard of is called ice wine. Ice wine is the rarest of wine known today. Ice wine is produced under only very extreme weather conditions. Ice wine is mainly grown and processed in the Pacific Northwest Region, where the weather conditions are perfect~ideal for growing it.
As odd as it may seem, ice wine is produced in small quantities only and the finest of quality , lack of availability, makes it particularly~exceptionally rare. Unfortunately, do to how tremendously expensive it is , there are only a few lucky people who are actually able to have the benefit of this wine.
